Today I call for a dragon day and give you all the Ljubljana dragons that I could find in my archives.

As hinted on Saturday, I have many dragon photos from Ljubljana, the city of dragons. Why is it called this? Well, I’ll ask you kindly to read about it here. It has to do with the Argonauts. My eyes tend to glaze over when history is involved. Call it inappropriate schooling.
Suffice to say there is the Dragon Bridge from 1900 with four quietly menacing dragons, but their tails wag if a virgin crosses the bridge, so there’s that. There are some smaller dragons on the bridge as well guarding the lamps, and several smaller dragon sculptures placed elsewhere along the river.
The dragon – “zmaj” in Slovenian – has made it into the coat of arms, it is a sports mascot, the fan club – Green Dragons – and the cheerleaders’ squad – The Dragonettes (Zmajčice) – are named after it, it appears on the Union brewery logo, and on and on.
It could be argued that everywhere you look something reminds you of dragons. Or is it only me? No, Flavia – on her first visit to Ljubljana before we met in person – also found a house that looks like one, plus many other dragons in her lovely dragon post.
And now let’s have a look at mine. Dragon lovers, unite and take over!

Here we go. This is how you encounter the first couple of them.
Rather fierce.
It looks ready to take flight. Flavia has almost the same photo.
Is this tail wagging?
This is how you approach by boat.
Another one taken from the river.
The lamp guardians.
It looks vaguely like an eagle.
By Tea Curk Sorta, made from aluminium wire, displayed upon the Ljubljana Castle.
More recently added dragons along the Ljubljanica river.
Like this. The Castle Tower just visible above.
Another one. I’m the son of dragon instead.
Not sure what this represents but it goes well with the dragon theme.
The dragon boat Emona again with some happy kids. Emona was the name of Ljubljana in Roman times.
On a similar boat. On the right, the Union beer dragon. My uncle worked for Union all his working years.
Christmas in Ljubljana.
Wow, people. Still feels strange to see so many together. The dragon mascot in action.
Having a rest. This was the 3×3 Ljubljana Basketball Challenger in 2018.
Dragons on sale pretty much everywhere. One day they will come back and get even.
It might look like a pet but it’s green and it has a pointy tail…
A pretty spectacular courtyard of the Križanke Summer Theatre venue. Can you see it?
Taken during this same graffiti tour as advertised here. It was rather brilliant. Not as free any more, I hear.
The tour stopped at Metelkova City too. Definitely a dragon.
As for this one, a matter of interpretation.
And this? Hm… Dragon Man! Also in Metelkova City.
And what would my grandfather say? That the last dragon was caught and turned into this door.
This day in my blogging history

Thank you, SMSW! Did you show them to the boys? 🙂 They have been patiently hiding in the folder called Zmaji. 😉 But I did post a few of these before.

It must be a lovely city to live in! I could pat a dragon every time I walked past one 🙂 🙂

PS. Funny how God named all the animals in English! If I knew another language I would be interested to see how it was translated…(k)

Hihhi, right, K! “As he walks, he wiggles his ass – I think I’m gonna call it a pes!” (=dog in Slovenian)
