I think my way of life and photography might be in direct opposition to people-watching. My camera and I look through, past and between people.

I take many more photos of animals than people. And yet, candid photos of animals – they don’t exist. Animals always know you are there with your camera, they just don’t care which profile is better or how many likes they get. 😉
I have months of photos without a single (unknown) person in them. I can go to Rome, always crowded as it is, and have zero people in all the photos. People-watching, if you think about it, is a bit like staring and staring is rude. Just as I don’t like being stared at, I don’t do it myself.
So, it’s been easy going through my archives: countryside, countryside, leaves, toads, geese, clouds, sea, trees, sky, bestia, amore, parents, doors, doors, doors, doors, buildings, cars, insects, plants, food, sister, friends, doors, oh did I say doors?
But sometimes my camera disobeys. My camera believes that it should belong to a paparazzo and it could make us lots of money. These were such moments.
But first, as I promised to Mr. Equinoxio, here is the Slovenian cover of The Little Prince in action from some moments ago. It was published in 1985 in Ljubljana in the collection called Biseri (Pearls), translated by poet Ivan Minatti, and bought for 4600 Yugoslav Dinars. Equinoxio has been known for his pot-pourris and photos of randomly encountered Travellers, as he calls them. Here is my Mali princ, the ultimate traveller, in Tuscany, of all places.
And here are my random travellers – even though as the gallery progresses, they are getting less and less random.
One of my favourite random people photos. In Siena. At the Orbetello carnival this year. She is observing the princess abseiling from the Piran church tower. She knows how it feels because she was the princess one year before. Terme di Saturnia. Wild and free and warm. Always an eye out for surfer dudes. In another life I’ll join them. Castiglione della Pescaia. Sometimes Italians indeed do sports. Orbetello lagoon. I love this lady and these doors. Sovana. These men have been here for a while. Grosseto Cathedral. Close but far away. Above the Ljubljanica river, Ljubljana. A wedding by the Tiber, Rome. Another wedding. Amore’s nephew, learning style early.Chess tournament at the Tartini Square in Piran. Look at the thinking. Right there. This is proper paparazzi material. Legendary Slovenian singer Janez Bončina Benč spotted a few hours before his concert at the stage on the left. Vatican. The Pope went around his square a little. Painter Donna Stiles at her (first ever) exhibition in Massa Marittima this summer. That’s her self portrait on the wall. Grey heads spotted by Lake Burano. Father and his cameraman friend. A few from the Giardino dei tarocchi. Mom and a random boy. I love it when kids run into my frame just as I’m about to click. This man is far from home. This time bestia didn’t know that I was taking the photo. I was far. Notice that the pillar on the left was left unfinished. Niki de Saint Phalle’s living quarters (not for long) within the Giardino. Soon after she moved underground. This paparazzo needs some more practice in invisibility. Just mom having tea. This photo was taken in 2015, the first time I took my then new camera around town. Those guys were impressed. And finally, so you don’t think mom is a regular 70-year-old. She is a rapper. This was her birthday party three years ago with the surprise guest rapper Klemen Klemen. She is teaching him some skillz.
Am meeting here a different Manja – one who loves people and animals:) Love the chess game and the foy with the wedding flowers – striking! Great to see you from a different side:)
Oh, Junieper, I believe that. If one only sees my door posts, all the rest comes as quite a surprise. 😀 I’m glad you like it and have decided to stick around. Always welcome, doors or no doors.
“A cacaphony of images” is a great description Manja – so many terrific shots, hard to choose favorites but if I must I loved the painter with her head turned but her photo on the wall. Fabulous composition!
Oh, did you write ‘cacaphony’ on purpose, Tina? 😉 Jan above said ‘cacophony’. I wouldn’t use this word for lack of knowledge how to spell it, hihih. Thank you, I’m especially glad that you like the painter. She doesn’t like her photo taken at all but she likes this one, I do believe. 🙂
That couple in the beginning looks so cool and cute nephew looks like he is dancing by himself? 😊 In another life, I’m a surfer too. Surf’s up!!! 🤙

This is a great collection! I love the expression on the girl’s face as she talks to her friend, both seated on the concrete wall.
