Favourite photos

Judy asks us to show her our favourite photo. In my case that means 18 of them. As if it weren’t her who gave the name to my blog when she called me “excessive”.

In her post, Judy shows us her favourite photo of all times and it’s a group of nuns. She asks for our ideas how such a group could be called. My solution was a congregation of nuns.

If you would like to show us your favourites – and who doesn’t? – please visit her post and leave the link in a comment there.

Well done, Judy, for being able to choose only one favourite photo, for providing such an apt name for my blog – in a comment under an old post of mine she called it excessive and she meant it as a compliment – and for pushing me into action and in search of my favourites.

The first photo came easily and it’s the one that I feature above. It was taken in 2012 during my first visit to these parts that I now call home. I call it Beauty and the Beast.

But that seemed so… inexcessive.

So then came the butterfly, and the gorgeous Ljubljana door that I wouldn’t know existed if Flavia wouldn’t find it first, and one set of happy grandparents, and the other, and that one of the mother’s side of my family taken by dad, and our feet at the Pearl Jam gig in Rome, and my parents, and my sister’s shot of us three girls in Giardino dei Tarocchi, and the favourite photo of me with two friends in Duba, the happiest place in the world, the one of an artist in front of her shop, and a favourite painting that isn’t even mine nor its photo, and bestia on the trail, and then I was reminded of that photo by Snow Melts Somewhere from Ushuaia in Argentina which made us connect, which possibly enabled my blogging future to begin, and then I just had to include Lexi’s doors from Bhutan, and the one that made me go Jeeeesus Christ most recently – Patti’s lion gate from Florence (with thanks for permission by all three. Please find the links to their original posts in the captions under each photo below).

And when I thought I was done with my selection of 17 photos, Judy asked me to include the one of the nun with the drone that I took two weeks ago. Here you go, Judy, just for you.

  1. What a great variety you have, and I love your family photos… expecially the one of your grandparents in their swimsuits. What a beautiful photograph. Thanks for playing along and for playing so well, Manja.

    1. Ohh, great that you found my post, Judy. Did you see the mail I sent? Or did you get the pingback? Today I’m the spammer, the bots say. :p I couldn’t leave my link under your post. Maybe it’s still in the spam folder. Thank you for this great challenge!

  2. I found you in Spam along with 90 pages of offers for Cialis and shady videos. What poor company you keep. I can’t find an option to select all and delete, unfortunately, although there must be a way to do so. I think what prompted them partially was my humorous post on the schoolmarm and the window peeper. I think that put me into company I didn’t seek.

  3. Ladies in blue.
There are so many wonderful pics here. I especially love Bestia with snow-covered mountains and the boats and gypsy (your inspiration for the visual verse’s prompt, if my memory serves me well), and and and…But I gotta say the first one of your grandparents, the black and white one, is a real killer.

    1. Thank you, Bojana. 🙂 You’re right, I used the gypsy for that prompt. But the dog in the photo with the mountains is not bestia. That one (and the next two of blue doors) was taken by Snow Melts Somewhere (and two other bloggers), but I’ve always loved it so much that I asked her if I may include it. It was taken in Ushuaia in Argentina, and bestia was never even close. And thanks for liking the first one. 🙂 They are nothing if not happy.

  4. So many great photos here … I’m going to go out on a limb and say you like the color blue! The photo of you as an infant made me see that you are the spitting image of your father, which I might not have said before. I can also relate to the way your mind roves from one place/topic/photo to another – from Ljubljana to Italy to Bhutan and more! My own fave might be the two rowboats; I think you chose the very best as the header photo!

    1. Ahh, Lexi, thank you for careful viewing and for your doors. How interesting that you see the resemblance with my father from when I was little! I must say that all the blue is a coincidence, generally I say that green is my favourite. 🙂 The two rowboats were the first to come to mind for this post. I’m glad I was right. All well to you!

  5. My favourite is Beauty and the Beast. Interestingly, one of my favourite photos that I’ve ever taken is very similar. I think there are three boats, but it’s also on still water and close up like this. Like so many others said, I enjoyed the family photos. In the one with you as a baby, I didn’t read the caption, but immediately noticed the woman on the left and thought, “Who is this fashionable lady?” ha ha. And then I find out it’s your own Momma. ❤

    1. Hihi, she certainly steals the show. 😀 She looks mighty young too. She had me at 24. And I’m really glad you like the boats. As I say, it was my first thought as to my favourite photo of all time. Thank you, Crystal. I love having you here.

  6. Gorgeous photos as ever, Manja. Something for everyone: heartwarming family shots, adorable shots of Bestia enjoying some rolling views, a trio of beautiful blue bevvies, some excellent doors and an enjoyable choice nun shot :-). Love the painterly Grožnjan shot – excellent!

    1. Thank you, Sunra Nina! 🙂 I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my eclectic collection. This is how I am. (The second dog, the one under the mountains, is not Bestia. They just look similar, but that was a stray dog in Argentina, spotted by my blogger friend Snow Melts Somewhere.)

  7. I am so glad I found these photos again. The first photo of your grandparents just warms my heart. I am jealous. I have only stiff, posed photos of unhappy looking people that are my grandparents. Oh, yes, I am jealous!!
