As we were driving out of Ljubljana to the north, I was admiring the mountains covered with dark stormy clouds and trying to figure out if this was the type of country that could let me forget about doors. The answer is no.

Gozd Martuljek is a little village in the upper left corner of Slovenia with Italy to the west and Austria to the north, just before Kranjska Gora, the town which is a bit bigger but still not huge by any means.
Gora is a female noun and means mountain. We go way back, she and I, but this is the first time we visited her together. We spent the last three days there with my parents and amore, since the state of Slovenia let us spend 200 Eur per person on accommodation with breakfast within Slovenia by the end of the year. Korona is good for something.
We had such full days even though it was raining for the first day and a half, and saw much and ate much and walked some and chatted and laughed and generally had a mighty good time. Yesterday my sister joined us for the day and we had a look at the Nordic centre Planica where they jump and fly on skis, and we took the ski lift to the top of the highest world record hill. More from here soon, since tomorrow we are going back to Italy and I’ll be blogging more again.
But today the first set of doors which I encountered as we were approaching our destination and stopped in Gozd Martuljek for a bridge. The last three photos are from later that first day, as we climbed (by car) to the selected eatery on the hill opposite but it was closed. They had rabbits in a cage outside, and some running outside of it, and we wondered if this meant that we were to catch our own. Bestia was in agreement.
I was happy too. The first two doors are from two houses I’d love to live in, and as for the rabbits, I don’t remember seeing a rabbit cage door on a Thursday before.

My ears wiggled and and I had to approach.
What a cheerful sight!
Hearts and all.
We passed this beauty on the way to the river.
It looked like it was waiting for us.
More hearts and flowers and an inviting bench.
The restaurant hut “Srnjak” (meaning he-deer which we call Bambi) was not open for more.
The view from behind. Bestia was crying: “Who captured my wild friends??”
No matter the weather, you’re as pretty as I remember, Kranjska Gora.
The surroundings have oh-so-picture-perfect idyllic mountain scenery. It just makes you want to take deep deep breaths to take it all in.
Yes the hearts on the window shutters are a nice touch. And bravo, I do believe you have in fact posted our first rabbit cage doors 🙂

Oh Norm, I can feel that air too. I’d need it here so much. Ever since coming back I wonder how much constant heat the human body can take before it disintegrates. Thank you, I’m glad a rabbit door was not featured yet.

Thanks, SMSW. I felt like a kid. 😀 I’m so out of touch with reality that all day today I kept thinking it was Wednesday. But no, I need to do my Thursday Doors…

I’m glad you could get away to your beautiful mountains! Tell me more about how and why the state of Slovenia let you spend 200 Euros per person on accommodations within Slovenia by the end of the year! Sounds interesting … and wonderful!

Thank you, Lexi! Well, it’s to aid local tourism in these korona times. It’s working too – Slovenians are gladly travelling all over their tiny but gorgeous country for a few days. Win win win! All adult citizens got 200 eur and kids got 50. I still have some to spend but I’m not sure I’ll return by the end of the year. You can gift your amount to parents or children in its entirety but not once you start using it, as I did. I hope you get to these mountains one day (wait, you did yet, correct?).

We did drive through those mountains after we left Lake Bled and headed north into Austria, but we didn’t get a chance to really walk in them much. We’ll just have to go back! Love the idea of motivating citizens to get out and tour their own country right now.
