Day 18: An ode to life’s small pleasures

Today everything is pretty self-explanatory.

Prompt 18: “Write an ode to life’s small pleasures. Perhaps it’s the first sip of your morning coffee. Or finding some money in the pockets of an old jacket.”

An ode to life’s small pleasures

I might not know what I want to be in life,
but I’ve always been good.
At choosing!
Good at choosing.
I’m the world’s best couch selector.
My booklist,
my film list,
my location list
my photo collections
are works of art.
But what I’ve been luckiest
in choosing
is my quarantine mate.

I keep telling him that.
Today when he returned from the supermarket
with everything I’d merely hinted at to wish

and so much more,
I remembered.
The first New Year’s Eve together we spent
in Slovenia and I was ill.
He went to buy groceries with my mother.
She returned in awe.
“He knows everything that you like
and don’t like,”
she exclaimed.
So yes,
I chose big things well too.
But sometimes
two separate sets of headphones
are just the little things
two people

need
in quarantine.

And here, the best pot heads in the neighbourhood. And amore.

  1. Sweet post, Manja. Isn’t that delightful? It’s romantic in its way. I had said the other day that I had not had diet 7up in a long time, and wouldn’t you know, on his last trip to the grocery, The Mister picked some up? It’s the small things that make a marriage happy. Those small pleasures of being known and loved and cared for accordingly ❤

      1. But that would have been the rose-tinted glasses period, I imagine! Phases always change. How can they not? People change, life moves, it all ebbs and flows. I think nostalgia makes us want to hold onto or recreate lovely periods of our lives and we just have to flow with that change. Sometimes, a little space is all that’s needed.
