CFFC: White cars

1000 Miglia, one thousand miles, is a race that allows cars of all colours. Here only white are gathered on purpose.

I must have been really tired and fed up with the heat and the exhaust fumes one month ago upon returning from 1000 Miglia race, “the most beautiful race in the world”, as they call it. I posted a bunch of Ferraris and proclaimed that all my 250 photos of other cars are “rather terrible”.

Since Cee wants to see colour white this week, here is a selection of white cars from this race. Bestia and I have gotten quite white as well, as you will see, so we all go together well. The thing is – for this race they don’t close the road for other traffic, nor put up any kind of protective barrier. You may race right alongside your favourite, if you can catch it.

With some internet sleuthing I was able to get some ID on the models and makes of the cars and the country of the drivers, but not of all. Suffice to say, they are fancy and old (with some fancy new ones whizzing by).

Here are photos from three different angles on the way from Manciano towards Terme di Saturnia. I was not really happy with any of the three. Next time I will catch the cars catching the sun in the parking lot. Until then – give me a colour, and you’ll get cars. I’ve got plenty.

  • Angle No 1: Shooting from the car. Bugatti T23 Brescia, Belgium. Year: 1925.
  • Chrysler 72 De Luxe Roadster, Italy. Year: 1928.
  • Lagonda M45 Rapide, the Netherlands. Year: 1934.
  • A Jaguar whizzed by. I was unable to track it down from the list of participants.
  • Alfa Romeo, a Julietta, say amore who used to drive a similar one.
  • This one is too far to tell. Some Porsche?
  • A sponsor car. Estra has to do with electric cars. Can it be that this one is electric too?
  • BMW 328, Italy/Austria. Year: 1938.

  • Your photographer turning white…
  • Angle No. 2: Opposite side of the road. Bestia turning white but quite enjoying my yelling “Bandiera rossa” to the passing cars.
  • Triumph TR 2 Sports. Year 1954. Pro tip: Do NOT leave your own dirty car in the frame.
  • BMW 328, Belgium. Year: 1938.
  • Austin Healey 100/4 BN1, Kazakhstan. Year: 1954.
  • A Mercedes. And the dirty Fusion. But it’s ours.
  • Another Estra. Another electric one?
  • Bestia is giving me his “Really? Don’t you have enough?” glance.
  • Angle no. 3. Arnolt Bertone Bristol Bolide, Sweden. Year: 1954.
  • Porsche 356 speedster 1500, the Netherlands. Year: 1955.
  • The last car and then we went home. Triumph TR2 Sports, Japan. Year: 1954.

  7. Once again, an excessive abundance of photos that really make me feel happy. I just loved the white cars. But I was really intrigued by the very idea of the race: other regular people driving alongside and no protective barriers???? Wow, it’s refreshing to hear of a country that has not gone lawsuit crazy like the U.S.

    1. Haha, quite, Carol. 😀 Italy is nothing if not refreshing. The thing is that this is more like a parade, it lasts a week or more, they don’t race at all times, only in specific (closed) sections. It was really funny to see locals driving among them, doing their business with no fuss and care and consideration. Excessive abundance as a life goal, yeah!! Thank you most kindly!
