Thursday Doors, 14/5/20: Vitorchiano 1.

Today I finally delve into the doors of Vitorchiano, officially one of the prettiest Italian towns. And it was not even on my list.

This was one of our field trips with Flavia in January, and on this one we were joined by her friend who is a local from nearby Viterbo, north of Rome, in the Lazio region of Italy.

After the lovely Villa Lante in Bagnaia (I’ve had several posts from there, follow the tag Villa Lante) we drove a short distance to have lunch in the restaurant Zafferano which Flavia’s friend knew. It was a most excellent and pretty choice. Then we proceeded on foot to the town Vitorchiano which I hadn’t ever heard mentioned before.

Soon it became clear that there would be plenty of clicking with Thursdays in mind. There will be many more posts, this is only the initial impression. Welcome!

As for here and now – nothing has changed. We are still not going anywhere. You’ll be the first to know when this changes. At least the mask is not obligatory any more if you don’t go near other people. Ah well…

But it’s alright. Doors will wait.

And then they were coming from left and right so fast that all I could do was click. To be continued.

  1. It’s good to hear that things are still good with you. I think we are all getting a little restless to get back outdoors and resume some normal activities. I for one am getting very bored with the walks around my neighbourhood!

From the photos, this town certainly is very lovely. I love the art wall in the narrow lane way of the restaurant, and the last two doors with the stained glass windows above them. So pretty!

  2. Darn it! Another reason ‘to have to go back’ 😉
There’s no end to the quaint old towns to discover in that part of the world, and most of them have terrific restaurants to enjoy as well. Hopefully you’ll be able to get out and explore again soon *fingers crossed*

  5. What a lovely town. Thanks for showing it to us, even though it will be a long time before I can return to Europe. I had been planning to be in Northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia in May/June this year.

    1. Yesss, we are, Ishita! You only need to get here! Italy opens its borders on June 3rd. I’m not sure about international flights but I suppose they will be back too. I’ll go to Slovenia soon after that but I’ll be back, not yet sure when. Summers in Italy are extremely hot, but you know this. All other seasons are better for playing tourist. I have no doubt that sooner or later we will be able to say cin cin in person.

      1. Haha that is the difficult part, at least for a few months. I’m hoping next yr we can travel more freely. Right now I’m honestly wary. But yes, lets keep the hope alive for a cin cin in person.

    2. Of course! Let us know when you’ll be back to Italy. We are in fase 2 now and our government has loosen all the restrictions. Hopefully the next year will be even better. In the meantime take care of yourself 💪
