Friendly Friday Future

This is it, said Snow Melts Somewhere: future is the last Friendly Friday prompt that she gives us. I wish to thank her for each one, it’s been great fun.

First I wish to show Snow my mailbox again, so that she finds us when she comes. Alas, this was in the past, our postbox had to go. The sun and wind destroyed it, and either way now we have the communal postbox. But I certainly hope our home lasts deep into the future.

Next, a little thing I wrote upon seeing Snow’s last prompt as I was waiting at the doctor’s (for a general check-up) back in Slovenia where I spent last week to help my parents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. We did it and it was wonderful. 

Future. 
Is murder, mayhem, madness. 
But also doesn't exist, nor does the past. 
Is what happens when you're busy making other plans. 
Is waiting at the doctor's office. 
Is growing old in front of our very eyes. 
Is looking back and laughing. 
Is looking forward in silence. 
Is slobbering at the potential of now. 
Is growing up to become a writer.

What I shall do next is disobey, which is one of my worst habits, and look in the past instead of into the future. After all, it’s hard to take photos of the future.

Each of the following photos was used for one of the themes suggested by Snow since she and Amanda started the challenge in January. The first photo in the gallery appeared in my first Friendly Friday post, followed by some others that Snow liked with the links to my original posts. All this time in between certainly went by in a flash.

I’m proud to say that I haven’t missed a single Friendly Friday and helped by hosting five of them when either Snow or Amanda were elsewhere occupied.

It’s great to see that the challenge continues with Amanda and the new host Sandy.

And Snow won’t be far either. We know that it always melts somewhere.

Snow, thank you for your time, interesting prompts and meaningful comments. I wish you write because you wish it so and also because I wish to read, no matter how your photos are always great as well. Let’s keep it friendly!

  • For the first challenge I found Friendly Friday inspiration with this fellow.
  • I think you will agree that adults must not be ignored.
  • Two weeks ago I went in search of some dramatic scenes in the streets of Rome. I found a living Pier Paolo Pasolini carrying a dead one.
  • Snow agreed that Magari was a great name for a yacht. I understand it as “in your dreams.” Electric dreams, maybe.
  • This one came with a joke: “Ahh, look at you. How cute you are! Mom has dressed you alike, are you twins?” “Shut it, granny. Licence and registration!”
  • This one is from a photo walk around Tivoli park in Ljubljana. It came with a fun poem about women knowing and men wondering.
  • This is the sky over Ljubljana which I turned into a secret Aurora Slovenialis. So secret that nobody knows about it. Maybe because I made it up.
  • This Siena courtyard was posted under tourism with some other recommendations.
  • Snow liked bestia lying on top of two cats. This may have been his comfort zone then, but in the meantime this apartment acquired a living black kitten. More like a war zone now.
  • When Snow said chairs, I posted this one especially for her: one of the two friends who get to play together but never get to meet. This is us.
  • These posing cows are saying: “We are going to lie down a little while you are busy with your tractor.”
  • For the dreamy challenge I posted some photos from the beautiful garden of a private villa which I visited on its open-door day.
  • This post was a success. Snow liked the colour and the poems as well, and wrote her own alphabet poem. Filed under mood.
  • One of the times I was guest-hosting, Snow gave me day trip as the theme. This is my uncle in steaming hot Grosseto.
  • The first time I was the host, it was all floral.
  • On the subject of design, I had a look at nature and asked poppies to take some selfies.
  • For bricks and tiles there was a lot from both groups. This lovely tiled table was found in Capalbio.
  • A recent challenge asked about our whereabouts. We have pomegranates and then nobody picks them.
  • My alternative version looked the same as the actual one.
  • For her second time hosting Snow chose Pantone colour of the year as the theme: living coral. This is our pantry.

  2. A grand tribute to your collection of Friendly Friday photos – the Snow challenge! I loved the Aurora Slovenialis! And most of all, the words on the wall of the Doctor’s surgery. As you know, I like words, but alas my phone could not display all is them on mobile format and I couldn’t click on it to enlarge it like in a gallery. 😢 And the words were the important ones at the end of each line. Could you send it to me?

    1. Ahh, thanks for telling me this, Amanda! I hate it when this happens. I’m not happy with this “verse” format, will have to change something.

      I wrote the words in the waiting room, they weren’t hanging on the wall. I hope this is clear. Here they are:

      “Future.

      1. Now I am even more impressed that you wrote those words. And now that I can read whole sentence I can detect the manufacturer in those words. They are philosophical, and indeed pertinent to the theme for this week. ‘Looking forward in silence and slobbering at the now,’ – excellent!! Words are what we ponder and the past and future only exist in our minds.

      1. It will be my first visit. Although I am sailing with an Italian Captain, I have yet to visit Italy. Joined his boat on in Isla Mujeres on the Atlantic side of Mexico and headed west. Tried to get him to take me to the Med from South Africa, but he said ‘been there done that’ and so we are sailing onward to the Pacific side of Mexico
